The first day of sociology class was very different from what I expected and from what I am used to. When I walked into class I first got greeted by a hand shake and a very welcoming hello. Usually when I walk into classes on the first day my teachers give me an assigned seat and get straight into the rules and regulation for their class room. In sociology we all got to pick our own seats and when everyone arrived our teacher said nothing. At first it was very awkward and I didnt know what was going on. I wasnt sure if our teacher was doing it on purpose or if he was trying to get us quiet. People were quiet at frist but then people started laughing and talking about what was going on. Many things were going through my head when I realized that it probably had something to do with the social norms of our society. We are so used to our teachers talking to us on the first day and having a teacher that didnt talk at all was really weird for us. This was a cool first experience of sociology.

Now that you have done a few of the readings, any other questions or ideas you have about why the class responded the way they did to the first day?
